Restoring the Bride of Messiah
Christians everywhere are living in a world that is steeped in the spirit of Babylon. From the earliest of post-flood times up to the present, the world and its religions are all tainted by it. It has taken root so firmly in our everyday lives and has been disguised so cleverly that we are blind to the fact that we are practicing paganism, even in our modern “Christian” church.
Satan is known for his exploits in counterfeiting the things of God. His plan has always been to usurp the throne of God (as if that were possible). So great is his pride that he has imitated the very ideas of God and has sought to win over as many of God’s creatures’ souls as he can through this great deceit.
We will look at the origin and path that Satan’s clever plan has taken and how it has effected the world’s civilizations and indeed, the very Church of God.
Early Historical Babylon
The Bible gives a brief account of the establishment of Babylon in the early years following the flood of Noah. Its founder is Nimrod.
Genesis 8:6-22 And it came to pass at the end of forty days, that Noah opened the window of the ark which he had made: And he sent forth a raven, which went forth to and fro, until the waters were dried up from off the earth. Also he sent forth a dove from him, to see if the waters were abated from off the face of the ground; But the dove found no rest for the sole of her foot, and she returned unto him into the ark, for the waters were on the face of the whole earth: then he put forth his hand, and took her, and pulled her in unto him into the ark. And he stayed yet other seven days; and again he sent forth the dove out of the ark; And the dove came in to him in the evening; and, lo, in her mouth was an olive leaf plucked off: so Noah knew that the waters were abated from off the earth. And he stayed yet other seven days; and sent forth the dove; which returned not again unto him any more. And it came to pass in the six hundredth and first year, in the first month, the first day of the month, the waters were dried up from off the earth: and Noah removed the covering of the ark, and looked, and, behold, the face of the ground was dry. And in the second month, on the seven and twentieth day of the month, was the earth dried. And God spake unto Noah, saying, Go forth of the ark, thou, and thy wife, and thy sons, and thy sons’ wives with thee. Bring forth with thee every living thing that is with thee, of all flesh, both of fowl, and of cattle, and of every creeping thing that creepeth upon the earth; that they may breed abundantly in the earth, and be fruitful, and multiply upon the earth. And Noah went forth, and his sons, and his wife, and his sons’ wives with him: Every beast, every creeping thing, and every fowl, and whatsoever creepeth upon the earth, after their kinds, went forth out of the ark. And Noah builded an altar unto the LORD; and took of every clean beast, and of every clean fowl, and offered burnt offerings on the altar. And the LORD smelled a sweet savour; and the LORD said in his heart, I will not again curse the ground any more for man’s sake; for the imagination of man’s heart is evil from his youth; neither will I again smite any more every thing living, as I have done. While the earth remaineth, seedtime and harvest, and cold and heat, and summer and winter, and day and night shall not cease.
Genesis 9:1-7 And God blessed Noah and his sons, and said unto them, Be fruitful, and multiply, and replenish the earth. And the fear of you and the dread of you shall be upon every beast of the earth, and upon every fowl of the air, upon all that moveth upon the earth, and upon all the fishes of the sea; into your hand are they delivered. Every moving thing that liveth shall be meat for you; even as the green herb have I given you all things. But flesh with the life thereof, which is the blood thereof, shall ye not eat. And surely your blood of your lives will I require; at the hand of every beast will I require it, and at the hand of man; at the hand of every man’s brother will I require the life of man. Whoso sheddeth man’s blood, by man shall his blood be shed: for in the image of God made he man. And you, be ye fruitful, and multiply; bring forth abundantly in the earth, and multiply therein.
Genesis 10:1 Now these are the generations of the sons of Noah, Shem, Ham, and Japheth: and unto them were sons born after the flood.
Genesis 10:6-14 And the sons of Ham; Cush, and Mizraim, and Phut, and Canaan. And the sons of Cush; Seba, and Havilah, and Sabtah, and Raamah, and Sabtechah: and the sons of Raamah; Sheba, and Dedan. And Cush begat Nimrod: he began to be a mighty one in the earth. He was a mighty hunter before YHWH: wherefore it is said, Even as Nimrod the mighty hunter before YHWH. And the beginning of his kingdom was Babel, and Erech, and Accad, and Calneh, in the land of Shinar. Out of that land went forth Asshur, and builded Nineveh, and the city Rehoboth, and Calah, And Resen between Nineveh and Calah: the same is a great city. And Mizraim begat Ludim, and Anamim, and Lehabim, and Naphtuhim, And Pathrusim, and Casluhim, (out of whom came Philistim,) and Caphtorim.
Thus Nimrod, a Hammite, founded Babylon, Erech, Accad, and Calneh in the Land of Shinar. He is also responsible for the establishment of the cities of Nineveh, Rehoboth, Calah and Resen. The name Nimrod means “we shall rebel”. He had the spirit of Lucifer.
The Tower of Babel
Genesis 11:1-9 Now the whole world had one language and a common speech. As men moved eastward, they found a plain in Shinar and settled there. They said to each other, “Come, let’s make bricks and bake them thoroughly.” They used brick instead of stone, and tar for mortar. Then they said, “Come, let us build ourselves a city, with a tower that reaches to the heavens, so that we may make a name for ourselves and not be scattered over the face of the whole earth.” But YHWH came down to see the city and the tower that the men were building. YHWH said, “If as one people speaking the same language they have begun to do this, then nothing they plan to do will be impossible for them. Come, let us go down and confuse their language so they will not understand each other.” So YHWH scattered them from there over all the earth, and they stopped building the city. That is why it was called Babel—because there YHWH confused the language of the whole world. From there YHWH scattered them over the face of the whole earth.
Note: It was in Babel that we see that Nimrod may have been the first post-alluvial mason. He used his skill of masonry to build a brick tower in rebellion against YHWH. At that time, the whole earth spoke one language and had the same understanding as handed down by Noah. Then God said that as one people united in language and thinking, they will be able to accomplish whatever they set their minds to. This is the prototype of the One World Order. One government, one thinking and one way of doing things. YHWH put a stop to it by sending confusion through the scrambling of their language so that they were not able to understand one another.
Being therefore strictly united in all things, coming to the fertile plains of Shinar they proposed to settle themselves there, instead of spreading themselves over all the lands of the earth, according to the design of YHWH; and in reference to this purpose they encouraged one another to build a city and a tower, probably a temple, to prevent their separation, “lest,” say they, “we be scattered abroad upon the face of the whole earth:” but YHWH, miraculously interposing, confounded or frustrated their rebellious design, which was inconsistent with his will. (Adam Clarke’s commentary)
YHWH had commanded men to replenish the earth (9:1, 7, 9), but they decided to settle down on the plain of Shinar where Babylon was located (10:8-10). This was deliberate rebellion against YHWH‘s Word. They journeyed “eastward” which suggests that they were turning towards the sun. They decided to unite and build both a city and a tower. Their purposes were to (1) maintain unity in opposition to YHWH, and (2) make a name for themselves. This entire operation is a fore gleam of the final opposition of man (and Satan) against Messiah, centered in the Babylon of Rev. 17-18. Men will unite then in a world religion and world political organization; they will be led by the Antichrist, the last world dictator; and their plans will be frustrated. It is interesting to note that today the world is rapidly moving toward the “one world” concept, thanks to the United Nations and other international alliances (EU, NAFTA, NATO, CFR, WB, IMF, etc.).
